First appearance on Fox: Republican South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott says his top priority is to ensure the former president wins Joe Biden, as Donald Trump is considering him as his running mate in November’s general election. He said it was to defeat him.
President Trump told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo over the weekend that he and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem were considering Scott, and detailed the criteria he would look for in a running mate.
“The only thing I can say is that what we need is four more years of President Donald Trump,” Scott told Fox News Digital on Monday.

“We were doing better under the Trump administration. If we are to succeed, we cannot afford to take our eye off the ball. Taking our eye off the ball gives President Trump four more years. ” he added.
President Trump may not announce his running mate “for some time” after clarifying criteria for his running mate, including making sure he is someone who can step up and handle the presidency in an emergency. Said it was expensive.
“What criteria do you use to identify vice presidential candidates?” Bartiromo asked.

“It’s always about who would be a good president. Of course, you always have to think that way in an emergency. Things happen, no matter who you are, things happen. That’s number one. 1,” President Trump said.
“Who is your running mate?” Bartiromo said.
“Well, I have a lot of good people. I have a lot of good ideas,” he said, adding, “I talk to everyone.”

“You know, I called. [South Carolina Sen.] Tim Scott, guys like Tim Scott, and I said you’re a much better candidate for me than you are yourself,” President Trump said, adding, “I was looking at him. He was good, but very reserved.”
“Last week, I watched him protect me, stand up for me, fight for me. I said, ‘Hey, you’re more important to me than yourself. He’s a much better person,”’ he continued.

Trump went on to praise Nomu, noting that she had publicly said she would never run against him “because I would never beat him.”
President Trump denies reports that his campaign has contacted independent presidential candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr. This is to explore the possibility of securing a ticket with him early in the campaign season. President Trump said the exchange “never happened.”
