Vice Presidential candidate Senator Tim Scott (R.S.C.) She revealed the turning point in her relationship with former President Trump, explaining how the controversy over the handling of the 2017 “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville made their relationship “the way it is today.”

“You said once that he compromised his moral authority in terms of his response to the Charlottesville rally,” “Fox & Friends” host Ainsley Earhardt asked Scott in an exclusive interview Thursday.

“I would say that Charlottesville created the relationship we have today,” he replied.

“He invited me into the Oval Office to talk about race relations in America. I wanted to share my thoughts with them. He listened to me and when I was done he said, ‘Help me help those I’ve hurt.’ And so Opportunity Zones were born. So I’m very grateful that President Trump invited me in and that we could work together to find solutions during one of the most challenging times in recent memory.”

Donald Trump will choose his running mate and appear in Thursday’s debate

Scott and his fiancée Mindy spoke to Fox News in an interview about the possibility of becoming vice president, dealing with the public eye and their “god-given” love story.

Earhart noted that if elected, Scott would be the first black person to run for the Republican Party as vice presidential candidate.

“Whatever the outcome, I’m very excited,” he said. “It’s a sign of an evolution in the Southern mind, and we Southerners are getting so little credit for the progress we’ve made. The idea that you judge a person by the content of their character and not the color of their skin has taken hold.”

“It’s not going to happen. It’s not right around the corner. It’s in the rearview mirror,” he continued. “We’re living the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. dream.”

Scott and Mindy got engaged earlier this year after some friends from church invited them to play pickleball on a date, and they plan to marry in August.

“I fell to my knees and felt a wave of emotion hit me… like a ton of bricks. And I thought, ‘I want to spend the rest of my life with this woman.’ What a blessing it is,” Scott said.

Mindy, an interior designer from South Carolina, grew up in a military family – her father was in the Navy and her brothers attended military school – and Scott praised her for her faith and “commitment” to country.

“How do you prepare him for politics?” Earhart asked her.

“I’m a good listener, I pride myself on being a good listener, and I pray. I pray a lot. I feel like my role is to pray for him, to support him, to be a listener and just love him,” Mindy said.

As President Trump prepares to face President Biden in Thursday’s CNN presidential debate in Atlanta, he could announce his running mate as soon as this week, much sooner than previously expected.

Scott is reportedly on the shortlist along with Republican Senators J.D. Vance of Ohio, Marco Rubio of Florida and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum.

Earhart asked Scott how “strongly” he wanted to be Trump’s vice president.

“I am eager to fulfill the mission God has given me, and whatever position I have that helps me fulfill that mission on behalf of the American people, I want to do that every day,” he replied.
