Tim Scott rips ‘two-tiered standard’ between treatment of Trump, Biden on border executive action: video

Fox’s first — Republican South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott said President Biden is considering executive action to address the border crisis and how former President Trump was treated during his presidency when he tried to do the same. Regarding Taka, he criticized what he called the “two-tiered standard.”

“There is no question that there is a two-level standard in the domestic media: the way they cover President Trump and the way they use kid gloves to cover Joe Biden. No,” Scott said in an interview Thursday. When asked about reports that Biden is considering executive action to crack down on asylum seekers, he responded on Fox News Digital.

“But more importantly, when President Trump was in office, the southern border was actually basically closed. Border crossings were about 1,000 per day. Administration officials said earlier this week that Biden is considering executive action to limit migrants’ ability to seek asylum in the face of historically high numbers of border crossings, but that’s one of “several” plans being considered. One of them, he told Fox.

One administration official also stressed that no final decision has been made on what, if any, action will be taken, and that exploring policy options does not mean they will come to fruition. .

One option reportedly being considered is the use of Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, which allows the president to restrict certain categories of aliens deemed “detrimental to the interests of the United States.” President Trump’s attempt to take advantage of the system was blocked by a federal court, a decision later upheld by the Supreme Court.

The former president also faced harsh criticism from Democrats and liberal media outlets who called him a “xenophobe” and a “racist” for trying to use executive action on immigration.

Although Biden has not yet faced such widespread criticism, some more progressive Democrats have slammed the idea that he would return to the previous administration’s approach.

“Democrats cannot solve the immigration problem by adopting Trump-like policies,” Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., wrote in a post on X, and Rep. Jesús Garcia, D-Illinois, wrote: President Biden will make a grave mistake if he moves forward with this policy.”

Biden’s potential executive action comes less than two weeks after the House narrowly voted to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his handling of the border crisis.

Chatting with reporters after voting in the South Carolina primary earlier in the day, Scott told Fox that he “certainly” supports impeaching Mayorkas, adding that the House should He praised him for having the “courage” to take such action. But he acknowledged that the issue likely would not be debated in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

“The best way to remove Mr. Mayorkas as secretary is to actually fire Joe Biden,” he said. “If we really want to change the trajectory of this country as it relates to immigration, illegal immigration, we need to have someone – a commander in chief – who respects borders and wants to close them.”
