Tim Tebow and Mike Waltz spearhead fresh initiative against online child exploitation

New Initiative to Combat Online Child Exploitation

On Thursday, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Walz and former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow announced a new global initiative aimed at addressing online child exploitation. This effort, which unites government officials, law enforcement, and anti-trafficking advocates like the Tebow Foundation, focuses on enhancing collaboration against predators who operate internationally.

After the announcement, Walz and Tebow discussed the initiative with Fox News Digital, where Tebow cautioned parents that the threat of exploitation isn’t just a distant issue but prevalent in their own communities.

“It’s happening in their backyard,” Tebow remarked when asked about the most surprising facts regarding child exploitation today.

The event emphasized the U.S. commitment to cooperate with nations globally to rescue exploited children, dismantle trafficking networks, and hold child predators accountable. Officials highlighted recent international collaborative efforts, new funding from Congress, and U.S.-led policies, including a United Nations resolution targeting online sextortion.

Walz stated, “The United States is leading the effort to fight child exploitation, partnering with organizations like the Tim Tebow Foundation. Since exploitation criminals operate across borders, a coordinated global response is crucial.” He urged a united front to safeguard children from these dangers.

Tebow encouraged parents to be vigilant about the dangers their children face online daily. He drew a parallel, saying, “It’s like dropping kids off at a playground with known predators lurking around.” Parents wouldn’t do that, would they?

Delayed Police Response in Potential Abduction Case

Tebow stressed the importance of parental involvement and the use of online safety tools, noting that predators are constantly looking for chances to exploit young victims. He conveyed his deep concern, stating, “Many predators exploit vulnerabilities in boys and girls for grooming and sextortion. I believe this represents one of the worst evils in the world.”

During the briefing, he called for enhanced international cooperation to tackle child exploitation. “This issue deserves a global response just as the threat itself does,” he asserted. “No child should be invisible, and no predator should evade justice.”

Investigation into Child Sex Crimes

When questioned if some nations are unwilling to cooperate with U.S. investigations, Walz pointed out that the actual challenge lies in the reluctance of many nations to adopt the necessary legal frameworks and investigation resources for such cases.

He remarked, “I’m not aware of any countries refusing to cooperate, but many lack the laws to address these issues. Some don’t have extradition treaties, and there may be insufficient training for handling digital evidence.” Walz further noted that U.S. agencies and United Nations partners are aiding countries in building their capacities through training and collaboration.

He highlighted that migration and human trafficking are often interconnected, with vulnerable individuals being targeted by criminal organizations along migration routes.

Tim Tebow Foundation’s Ongoing Mission

Tebow pointed out that many investigators worldwide struggle with victim identification, as criminals often deliberately try to remain hidden. “A lot of places suffer from insufficient funding and equipment, so expert training is essential for effective victim identification,” he noted. “The individuals tasked with this vital work are remarkable; it’s a challenging field where evil often goes undetected.”

In closing, he emphasized the necessity for specialized skills to locate, apprehend, and liberate victims, reiterating the collaborative effort of the United States Mission to the United Nations and the Tim Tebow Foundation to bolster international actions against child exploitation through technology and coordinated investigations.
