Tim Walz Says ‘Border Crossings Are Down’ from When Trump Left Office

CLAIM: Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) claimed during Tuesday night's vice presidential debate that “border crossings have decreased” since former President Donald Trump left office in January 2021.

Verdict: Somewhat true, but mostly misleading. Although fewer illegal aliens were apprehended by Border Patrol between ports of entry in August than in December 2020, the last full month of Trump's presidency, Walz's claims are dramatic. deliberately excludes the number of migrants who arrive at ports of entry and are being processed thanks to these measures. Changes in federal policy.

For example, fewer than 2,900 migrants were encountered at border ports of entry in December 2020. In August of this year, nearly 50,000 migrants were encountered at ports of entry.

A recent House Homeland Security Committee report found that about 85 percent of migrants arriving at the border, whether arriving at the border or arriving at the U.S. interior, under the Biden-Harris administration He suggested that he be released.
