“I think we need to understand what type of leadership they want,” he continued. “We were committed to being inclusive. We were committed to accepting people. Donald Trump said that's not what he wants. So if that's what he wants. If America is leaning, I think for me it's about understanding and learning more about America because I thought it was probably going to move towards a more positive message. ”

“I did the best I could this time.”

Walz also said little about the controversy surrounding Harris' choice of her as her vice presidential running mate and whether it had a negative impact on her campaign to disparage Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro.

“That's how history will write it,” he replied.

“It wasn't my decision. It was the vice president's decision,” he said, adding, “As I said during this campaign, when you asked the question, was there anything I could have done differently? ?The answer is obviously yes, because we lost. I did the best I could in this matter.”

Walz said he is relieved the election is over.

“Presidential campaigns are brutal, and this one was especially ugly, all of it was awful,” he said.
