Aaron Rodgers seems to be an inspiration to Rudy Gobert.
After a trying first year with the Timberwolves, the Minnesota defensive stalwart reached out to the Jets quarterback last offseason about a dark exit. According to ESPN.
Last year, Rogers revealed how he completed a four-day dark retreat at Sky Cave in Oregon.
“We’re so distracted by everything that’s thrown at us,” Gobert told ESPN. “It’s all about what we hear, what we see, what we see on the phone, what we hear. So sometimes we can’t really just be ourselves.”
Gobert, a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, has reportedly long been interested in the idea of retreating in the dark.
A darkness retreat is a meditative practice of remaining in a place without light.
“The reasons for doing this range from people wanting to know more about themselves, to people wanting to rest, reset and relax, to people wanting to explore consciousness and deepen their meditation practice,” says Scott, owner of Sky Cave Retreat.・Berman says: he told CNN last year..
“When someone falls into darkness, everything that was important to them, such as money, fame, power, status, and worth, becomes insignificant and meaningless in the darkness.Darkness. Inside, all you have is the present moment that reveals what is truly meaningful, like love, forgiveness, peace, and when you truly and authentically touch what matters most to you, it becomes your start changing.”
Gobert told ESPN that he viewed outside noise from both the media and players as a “false narrative” and was looking for a place without those distractions.
He booked his stay in May last year, before the start of France’s World Cup training camp, and spent 64 hours in a dark room.
Gobert told ESPN that he does push-ups and squats for exercise, which he calls “a thousand meditations.”
“It was a very powerful experience,” Gobert told ESPN. “It felt like a big reset and a powerful checkpoint. I was so grateful for everything I’ve been through, everything I’ve been through, and everything around me. I found myself exactly where I was supposed to be on my journey.
“When you’re in the dark, what’s inside you comes out. If you’re negative, you see the negative. And if you’re positive, you see the positive. Then you realize that you are creating your own reality.”
Gobert spoke positively about the experience, improving during his season with the Timberwolves and helping them to the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference.
Gobert averaged 14 points, 12.9 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in the regular season, all increases over his 2022-23 averages.
He totaled 14 points and 16 rebounds as the University of Minnesota defeated Phoenix 120-95 in Game 1 of the first round of the playoff series.
This was in sharp contrast to Rodgers, whose first season with the Jets lasted four plays after tearing his Achilles tendon in Week 1.
