Top-Floor Loft Offers Serenity in the Heart of East Village

Is it possible for a loft on the top floor, overlooking the lively St. Mark’s Place, to provide a sense of tranquility? For filmmaker and DJ Tina Romero, daughter of the late George Romero—renowned for his groundbreaking work in the zombie film genre—along with artist Liz Liguori, the answer seems to be yes.

A two-bedroom, one-bathroom loft in the Theater Condominiums on 133 Second Avenue is currently listed for $1.97 million.

This spacious loft also doubled as a production office for “Queens of the Dead,” a comedy/horror movie from 2025, directed and co-written by Romero, focusing on drag queens and club kids facing off against zombies in Brooklyn.

“It’s now super convenient to bring cast members in and have screenings here,” Romero noted, pointing out that the loft features “quadruple-insulated” Parisian-style windows, which create a soundproof retreat from the city noise.

She elaborated, saying, “It’s like watching a waterfall when it rains. I could see shooting stars and rainbows from my window.” In her experience, visiting the space feels unusually quiet—almost as if one has been transported away from the bustling East Village.

Additionally, Liguori mentioned, since the loft “doesn’t share a wall” with other units, one can enjoy loud music without worrying about disturbing neighbors.

Covering 1,045 square feet, the residence opens into a great room with expansive glass walls, leading to a chef’s kitchen designed for both dining and entertaining.

A lengthy hallway connects the two bedrooms and a bathroom with a window. The attention to details, high ceilings, and hardwood floors create an inviting atmosphere.

Romero expressed her preference for working by the window, saying, “I used to cafe hop, and this is the best cafe I’ve ever been to.” The location is quite central, adding to its allure.

Reflecting on her experience during post-production for the film, she described it as a “heaven” to be able to hop on a train and reach various destinations within 15 minutes. While easy access to Manhattan is a plus, she enjoys the peacefulness of her home. “We used to call St. Mark’s Place ‘City TV.’ We loved sitting at night, watching the scene unfold on 2nd Avenue. There’s always something happening, yet inside, it remains quiet and serene,” she shared. This contrast, she believes, creates a fascinating dynamic. “People are often surprised at how tranquil it is here.”

Records indicate that Liguori purchased the loft for $1.96 million in 2022, exceeding the original asking price of $1.68 million at that time.

“It’s been a huge help for us as hosts, but we’re looking for something larger now,” Liguori commented.

The 5-story building was established in 1920 and offers amenities, including an appealing rooftop deck. The listing is managed by Gino Filippone of Corcoran.
