Tisch apologizes to Mamdani after his brother labels him an 'enemy' of Jewish people

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch reached out to Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani to extend a personal apology after her brother accused Mamdani of being an “enemy” of Jews, as reported by a member of the Democratic Socialist Party.

Benjamin Tisch, the brother of the city’s top cop, criticized the mayor-elect during a passionate speech at a charity dinner this past Wednesday.

“The commissioner has apologized to my team for that comment,” Mamdani mentioned on Thursday at an event. “I aim to be the mayor for all New Yorkers, including those in the Jewish community.”

The mayor-elect has refrained from asserting that Israel should remain a Jewish state, insisting this shouldn’t impact his working relationship with the NYPD commissioner.

“My discussions with Secretary Tisch are focused on ensuring public safety for New Yorkers across the five boroughs while integrating justice,” he stated.

“She conveyed her apology to the team. I appreciated that and am now focused on achieving results,” he added.

Mamdani’s remarks followed criticism from Benjamin Tisch, who works at Lowe’s Corporation, aimed at the future of the city after Mamdani’s election win.

Benjamin Tisch directed his comments at the socialist during an award presentation at the annual holiday dinner of the Metropolitan Council, a nonprofit addressing poverty in the Jewish community.

Mamdani has been a vocal critic of Israel.

He even suggested that he would consider arresting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he entered the city during the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Benjamin Tisch’s apology came soon after he accepted an offer to stay on as police chief in Mamdani’s administration.
