Man Arrested for Threatening ICE Agents at Protest
On Friday, U.S. Acting Attorney Todd Blanche revealed that a man was arrested after making death threats towards U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and their families during a protest in New Jersey the previous night.
This arrest followed Blanche’s statement, just hours earlier, promising to track down those involved in the threatening behavior that was recorded on video.
“This is a federal crime,” he emphasized during an appearance on Fox News’ “The Will Cain Show.” He pointed out how severe it is not only to threaten ICE officers but also to issue threats against their loved ones.
In the video, a protester could be heard boldly confronting a police officer with threats, saying, “I’m going to kill your whole family. Your whole family is dead. Your children are all dead, your wife is all dead. I have your mother’s face, um, everyone is dead!”
Conflicts Escalate Outside Detention Center
On Thursday night, there was a confrontation outside the Delaney Hall Detention Center in Newark, where some protesters reportedly assaulted staff members. Blanche remarked that the officers were merely performing their duties and were “just standing there.” Later that night, he noted on social media that the FBI had apprehended an individual who had threatened ICE agents.
The identity of the arrested man has not been disclosed as of yet.
As protests stretched into their sixth night, tensions escalated. During the altercations, nine individuals were taken into custody, as stated by the Department of Homeland Security.
About 100 protesters were reported to have clashed with officials, with some throwing objects and chanting. It’s clear that this unrest is tied to ongoing demonstrations following claims from detainees about inadequate medical care and poor living conditions within the facility.
On Wednesday night, the Department of Homeland Security had mentioned that local law enforcement was unable to assist as rioters assaulted officers, which led to six arrests that night due to related assault charges on law enforcement. Meanwhile, Blanche noted that local law enforcement was also restrained in their response due to the state governor’s stance on the matter.
In summary, the situation reflects a tension-filled environment where protests—initially intended to address detainees’ rights—have escalated into confrontations resulting in serious threats and violence.
