Todd McShay gives a grim evaluation of the Jets as the decision on Dante Moore approaches

Todd McShay has expressed a rather grim view of how prospective NFL draft prospects perceive the current state of the Jets.

In his recent mock draft, the seasoned analyst suggested that Oregon quarterback Dante Moore, who hasn’t made his decision public yet, would be New York’s No. 2 pick.

McShay implied that it might be wise for Moore’s agent to explore options with the Raiders for the top pick. If that falls through, he advised that returning to college would be a better route than risking a draft to the Jets. He confidently stated, “I promise you there’s not a single player in this draft who wants to be a New York Jet.”

According to him, folks in Moore’s camp shouldn’t feel optimistic, and it’s likely that no one drafting will be thrilled either. McShay even suggested that if the Raiders opt for Indiana quarterback Francisco Mendoza instead, Moore should stay in Oregon and capitalize on NIL opportunities.

Why take the chance with the Jets?

On his show, McShay remarked, “We can survive going to 30 of 32 teams, maybe even 31. We cannot allow him to go to the New York Jets.”

Moore’s potential inclusion in the College Football Playoff semifinal against Indiana on January 9 remains uncertain, complicating matters further.

McShay reiterated his point, stating that unless a player has ties to the Jets, there’s little desire to join the team. His upcoming collaboration with former teammate Joe Douglas in the Jets’ front office adds another layer of intrigue.

It’s hard to dispute McShay’s assessments, especially in light of the Jets’ recent dismal 3-14 season under rookie head coach Aaron Glenn, leaving many to wonder if he is cut out for the job.

The franchise ended its season on a low note, having lost its last five games and recorded a record-low point differential. In an unprecedented move, they failed to secure a single interception throughout the season.

With a playoff drought now extending over 15 seasons, many see owner Woody Johnson as a significant problem within the organization.

Still, there are some glimmers of hope for the Jets. As key contracts expire for defensive stars like Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, the team holds five first-round picks and three second-round picks, which could either signal the start of a new era for the franchise or, according to McShay, lead to disappointment if talented college players end up in Jets’ colors.
