On Wednesday, officials informed that they have identified the suspect in a shooting that left 12 people injured near the Old West End Festival in Toledo, while also searching for another potential gunman.
The Toledo Police Department is currently looking for Car Nye Taylor, who is wanted on 11 felony charges related to the June 6 incident close to the festival. They described Taylor as a black male, about 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing around 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Additionally, authorities released an image of a second suspected gunman, though they haven’t disclosed his identity yet.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire near Delaware Avenue and Glenwood Avenue, adjacent to the festival grounds, at roughly 5:37 p.m. on a Saturday. Upon arrival, they found multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Fortunately, all 12 individuals injured are reported to be in stable condition, with ages ranging from 14 to 61, and most being in their early 20s.
Authorities are urging anyone who might know Taylor’s whereabouts or who can identify the second suspect to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111. There’s a total reward of up to $15,000 for information leading to an arrest: $10,000 from Crime Stoppers and an additional $5,000 from the U.S. Marshals Service.
Toledo Deputy Police Chief Joseph Heffernan mentioned that they suspect there were at least two gunmen involved. He indicated that, during a press conference, it appeared they were shooting at each other.
Reports suggest that the shooting erupted after a foot chase and altercation between rival groups at the festival, stemming from a dispute.
Earlier this week, Lucas County Attorney Julia Bates expressed her commitment to ensuring that “justice will be swift and strong.” She emphasized the impact of the violence, stating, “Those who have been horrified, traumatized and harmed by this violence will continue to be at the forefront of our efforts.” Bates also reflected on her personal connection to the community, saying, “This is my home. These are my friends and neighbors. That’s wrong.”
