Without Tom Brady, Tom Telesco and Antonio Pierce might still be with the Raiders
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. On Sunday, owner Mark Davis said he had “reservations” about firing the general manager and coach until Brady “urged” him to do so.
Brady “felt like he needed a complete reset” after a 4-13 season, the first full season with Telesco and Pierce at the helm.
Pierce, 46, a Super Bowl-winning linebacker for the Giants, was named interim head coach midway through the 2023 season following the firing of Josh McDaniels.
Telesco served as the Chargers' GM from January 2013 to December 2023 before joining the Raiders in January 2024.
Sources told the newspaper that Brady will be at the forefront of securing a successor as coach and general manager.
“This is Tom's show now,” the source said.
Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl champion, was confirmed as a minority owner of the Raiders in October. He owns 5% of the team.
A month earlier, he began his career as Fox's chief NFL analyst alongside Kevin Burkhardt — two years after agreeing to a 10-year, $375 million contract with the network.
Brady's current broadcast duties limit the hands-on work he can do with the team, but he does serve as Davis' ear and advisor.
The Raiders are one of six organizations with a coaching vacancy, along with the Cowboys, Bears, Jets, Saints and Jaguars.
The Patriots, where Brady played for 20 seasons and won six championships, hired former New England linebacker Mike Vrabel on Sunday as their next head coach.
As Brady, 47, prepares to call playoff games on Fox, attracting future coaching candidates to the Raiders has also been a priority.
As of Monday, the Raiders had met with Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Green and Detroit offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. Both Davis and Brady were involved.”
Former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is also scheduled to meet with the team on Monday.
Johnson, one of the most popular candidates on the market, was reportedly scheduled to talk with three clubs (Bears, Jaguars, Patriots), “but the prospect of Brady's pitch through an intermediary'' The work brought results.” MMQB's Albert Brier reports. Monday.
It remains to be seen whether the Raiders will add Mike McCarthy to their list of coaching candidates after he resigned from the Cowboys on Monday after five seasons as Dallas' head coach.
