Tom Brady has reunited with his former team on the football field, but he hasn't returned to play…at least not yet.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion also watched as Tampa Bay Buccaneer heir Baker Mayfield ensured the victory for the Philadelphia Eagles, leading 24-7 at halftime. .
Mayfield rushed for 347 yards and two touchdowns, and the Buccaneers won 33-16.
Earlier this week, Mayfield talked about the differences between his and Brady's quarterback styles.
Mayfield was quoted by the Bucks as saying, “They wanted me to come in and be myself and bring some joy back into football for some guys who weren't having a lot of fun.''
Brady responded on air as well when this quote was presented on the FOX broadcast.
“I thought it was stressful not having a Super Bowl ring,” Brady responded to Mayfield's comments in the booth. “I had the mindset of a champion, and I brought that to work every day. This wasn't a daycare center. If I wanted to have fun, I would go to Disneyland with my kids.”
Encouraged by play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt to continue, Brady added more words about his process and why “fun” isn't necessarily of value to him: not as a substitute for winning. Explained.
“There are ways to approach this game,” Brady said. “Come on. I've got teammates like (Rob) Gronkowski. I've got players like (Mike) Evans. We have high expectations. We're going to come out and We have to go out there and make sure we get results.”
Burkhardt replied, “The competitive juices are still flowing.”
Brady added: “They’re still out there. I’m sorry.
“The building was a little different with Tom,” Mayfield said earlier this week about the difference between his tenure in Tampa and Brady's tenure from 2020 to 2022.
Mayfield continued“Obviously, Tom was different in terms of his play. He was in an environment that put everyone on edge, so I think it was pretty stressful for everyone.”
Of course, Brady will end this conversation by holding up his Super Bowl ring. That's because he helped lead the Bucks to one win in three seasons, only the second time in franchise history.
