Brokaw, who anchored “NBC Nightly News'' for 22 years, was interviewed by Jane Pauley last year for her memoir “Never Give Up.''

During the interview he said: …I kept thinking that nothing bad would happen. However, as I grew older, this symptom began to appear. And what you're trying to do is control it as much as possible. ”

The honored newspaper reporter, who has won two Emmy Awards and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, went on to explain that he had to cut short his busy professional life.

“I had to change my life in some ways. I really had to give up my day-to-day activities at NBC because they were trying to move away from me. I just wasn't the same person. …And for the first time in my life, I felt like I was in a place I'd never been before.”

Brokaw retired in 2021 after 55 years with NBC News.

He has been married to writer Meredith Lynn Auld since 1962.
