Tom Felton from 'Harry Potter' Supports J.K. Rowling When Discussing Her Response to Trans Criticism

Actor Tom Felton, known for his role as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, remains unaffected by J.K. Rowling’s political views. He expressed gratitude towards the author, acknowledging her role in his rise to fame.

During a recent appearance at the Tony Awards 2025, Felton shared his thoughts on Rowling and the backlash she has faced from critics, particularly those within the transgender community.

Now 37, Felton was part of the Harry Potter films from 2001 to 2011. He has consistently refrained from criticizing the woman whose work launched his career during a Variety interview.

When asked if Rowling’s controversial opinions on gender identity would impact his career, he responded, “No, I can’t say that. I’m not really adapting to it… I’ve never seen anything that connects the world more than Potter. She’s responsible for it.”

Rowling has faced considerable hostility from the acting community for resisting pressure from transgender activists.

According to reports, Rowling has been targeted by activists since 2020 for her statement that only women can menstruate.

This year, she publicly thanked former President Donald Trump after he signed an executive order aimed at protecting women’s sports from transgender athletes.

In a post on X, she remarked, “Congratulations to everyone on the left who is campaigning to destroy the rights of women and girls. Without you, there is no image like this,” alongside a photo of Trump with female athletes supporting his decision.

Most recently, she celebrated a UK Supreme Court ruling that clarified the definition of sex in the Equality Act 2010 as binary—either female or male. Following this judgment, Rowling took to X to express her approval, saying, “We toasted you, @forwomenscot Neil says it’s the day.” She followed up with another post saying, “I love it when the plans come together,” featuring a celebratory drink in one hand and a photo of herself with a cigar in the other.
