Tom Hanks issues warning about AI ads for ‘wonder drugs’: ‘Do not be swindled”

Tom Hanks has warned fans about false advertising using his name, likeness and voice for “miracle drugs,” claiming that the companies are using artificial intelligence to deceive consumers.

Hanks shared the “PSA” on Instagram on Thursday.

“There are multiple ads on the internet using my name, likeness and voice to promote miracle cures and magic bullets,” Hanks said in a statement. “These ads have been fraudulently and AI-generated without my consent.”

“I am in no way associated with these posts, works, treatments or the spokespersons promoting these treatments,” he continued. “I have type 2 diabetes and only consult with specialists regarding my treatment. Don't be fooled. Don't be fooled. Don't lose your hard earned money.”

Hanks warned his fans about a dental company scam in October, urging them to “be careful.”

“There is a video circulating that uses an AI version of me to promote a dental treatment plan. I am in no way associated with it,” he wrote on Instagram at the time.

Wilson said her likeness has been used to promote diet gummies, but as an artist with a young following, she insisted she would never endorse the product.

“A lot of kids look at me, a lot of girls and boys,” she explained to a congressional committee in February. “I want to inspire them to be happy with who they are and to love themselves. And I would never do that.”

“But at the end of the day, people are like, 'I have to see it to believe it.' And they have seen it, and they believe it.”

Wilson also alleged that AI was being used to generate vocal content for musicians in “questionable settings” and to sing lyrics “that musicians would never write.”

“I use my music and my voice to tell stories and connect with my fans and help them connect with each other.
