Homan Engages in Debate on MSNBC
On Tuesday, Tom Homan, known for his role in border management, had a lively exchange with Mika Brzezinski on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” Brzezinski challenged Homan to back up his claim that 70% of immigrants have criminal backgrounds, pointing out that previous statistics from the Trump administration were at odds with reports indicating most immigrants actually have no prior criminal history.
“I want to understand why so many of these individuals seem to have vanished,” Brzezinski remarked. “You say you have this information, so show us.” Homan countered, suggesting it was inappropriate to say that people have disappeared. He attributed the current situation to ICE being restricted from enforcing laws effectively over the past years.
Homan went on to accuse Democrats of spreading what he called “fake” narratives regarding ICE operations. He insisted that the agency was merely fulfilling duties it has had for decades and noted that if people disagreed with ICE’s actions, they should take it up with Congress.
“We’re not just going after random people; we have clear case files,” he emphasized, asserting that these operations were meant to uphold public safety. He expressed concern that the criticism directed at ICE agents could endanger them and their families, insisting that their job involves enforcing laws, not disappearing individuals.
Additionally, Homan criticized the current administration, referencing records from the former Department of Homeland Security. He framed the ongoing actions of ICE as a continuation of past practices, arguing that they are merely adhering to laws set by Congress.
Lastly, Homan indicated plans for increasing workplace enforcement operations, referring to a recent raid at a Georgia Hyundai plant where nearly 500 individuals were arrested for immigration violations, many having entered the country without authorization.
