Tom Thibodeau uses his absence from the Og Anunoby lineup for at least a few minutes – take a look at power forward Karl Anthonytown alongside rookie Arielfukuporti at center with the Raptors on Tuesday night Ta.
It could possibly portend town and former center Mitchell Robinson playing tandem for Robinson to eventually clear and make his regular season debut following ankle surgery in May.
After the Timberwolves acquired All-Star Center Rudy Goatbert, the town has returned to the middle of the year after mostly manning the fourth power forward spot in Minnesota's past two seasons.
“It's just a high lineup and exploring that lineup is exciting,” Towns said of the possible composition after Friday's practice at Tarrytown. “It should give me… I'm somewhat familiar with Rudy with it, so it's going to be something I'll take advantage of such possibilities.”
Robinson, 26, was due to miss his 52nd straight game against the Celtics in the yard on Saturday night.
However, after being finally cleared for contact at the beginning of the week, the 7-footer “had done quite a bit of practice” on Friday, according to Thibodeau, “it was on good progress.”
Robinson has yet to resume his 5-5 scrimunging, but Thibodeau said his conditioning was “pretty good” after exercising on a regular stationary bike before returning to practice court.
“It's great to see Mitch all the time,” Towns said. “It was great to be around him since I got here and be able to get to know him more on the side of his friends, not his competitors.
“I admire him so much for what he does for this team, so it was great to be able to build a bond with him.”
So Towns added that he hasn't seen Robinson, who averaged 1.9 blocking shots in his first six NBA seasons as a replacement for the Knicks for a major acquisition at Thursday's trade deadline.
“No, he was here,” the fifth All-Star said. “We've always had a great plan and relationship with him, so nothing has changed.”
All-Star Point Guard Jaren Branson is also looking forward to seeing what Robinson Town combinations can do (even in small quantities) once the former can return to the lineup.
“They can be very good,” Branson said. “I hope Mitch is perfectly healthy and ready. That's my main focus and make sure he's fully, 100% ready.”
In the meantime, a small amount of fukurti received the minutes of the backup centre in the past two games, except for anunoby (srain).
The second round pick in 2024 recorded six points and five rebounds in 19 active minutes against the Raptors on Tuesday, with fellow Reserve Jerichosims trading to the Bucks the following day.
“He did a good job,” Thibodeau said of the 7-foot fukurti, born in Germany. “He's young. He's learning, so he's getting better.
“A valuable method [Achiuwa] Playing it is a huge plus for us. Also, since the OG can slip into five, I think there's plenty of depth there. ”
Asked what he saw from Fukport as the season progressed, the town replied, “Look is amazing.”
“He comes in with the right mindset every day,” Towns said. “He's hungry to be the best version of himself and is very coachable. It allows him to be on the fast track for success.
“And he only did himself, who he is and because he is a player and wants to be a superstar in his role.”
