Tommy Devito Transitions to New England Patriots

Tommy Devito is facing a significant change, as he has to switch teams in the NFL and leave behind his childhood home. The New England Patriots recently claimed him after the New York Giants cut him before the start of the 2025 season.

At 27, Devito isn’t just popular due to his local New Jersey ties; he has also never left his parents’ place in Cedar Grove, which is just a short drive from MetLife Stadium.

Known as “Tommy Cutlets,” he isn’t heading to New England empty-handed. He’ll be bringing some of his mother’s homemade Italian dishes with him. His agent, Sean Stellato, mentioned that “she’ll make sure he has all her homemade sauces and other good things” as he transitions to his new life.

Stellato expressed regret over the Giants’ decision to part ways with Devito, emphasizing his love for the team where he grew up. “Tommy is a very fierce competitor… it’s a shame,” he said. Devito certainly enjoyed the chance to play for his hometown team.

However, as Stellato noted, the business of the NFL doesn’t always allow for players to stay where they want. “He’s ready to move,” he stated, highlighting Devito’s eagerness for the new opportunities that await him with the Patriots.

The Patriots are gearing up with new franchise quarterbacks under head coach Mike Vrabel. Drake Maye, who had a promising rookie year despite a difficult season for the team (4-13 in 2024), is expected to take on a larger role this season. Behind him is Joshua Dobbs, a seasoned quarterback whose background is quite interesting—he’s known as “Passtronaut” due to his studies in aerospace engineering.

Devito’s rise to fame came in 2023 when he stepped in for Daniel Jones after an ACL injury. He managed a .500 record, completing 64% of his passes for 1,101 yards, with eight touchdowns and three interceptions. However, his performance dipped when he was called back last season, resulting in limited success over two starts. Still, he shined in the recent preseason, raising questions about the Giants’ quarterback strategy.

He ended the preseason with solid stats: 330 yards, four touchdown passes, and just one interception. The Giants made the tough decision to release him, but the Patriots were quick to secure him for their active roster prior to the season’s start.
