New Details Emerge on Tony Romo’s OWI Arrest

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was recently arrested for operating while intoxicated (OWI), and fresh information is coming to light. Allegations now suggest that an open container of alcohol was discovered in his vehicle following the police stop.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office shared records detailing the arrest, which occurred on July 23 in Wisconsin. Reports mention that Romo admitted to having an “open bottle of alcoholic beverages” on the passenger side of his black Jeep.

As deputies were towing Romo’s car, they found the open container. He faces a fine of $267 for this violation related to “possession of an open intoxicant to a MV driver.”

Additionally, he received a citation for “dangerous driving on the right.” Officers noted that he drove through a marked distress lane during high-traffic times to overtake vehicles, which is a concerning move in rush hour.

In the citation, it’s mentioned that Romo was questioned about why he was pulled over, but his response raised more eyebrows.

For this infraction, he might be fined $235. Another notable charge is for “driving while intoxicated,” which carries a hefty potential fine of $1,066 as per the court documents.

Moreover, Romo has also been cited for “refusing to submit to an intoxication test after arrest.” Reports indicate that while in custody, officers suspected impairment due to his “red and cloudy” eyes and the apparent smell of alcohol.

During the arrest, body camera footage shows him saying he was coming from the golf course and heading to see “grandma and grandpa.” He underwent several field sobriety tests but apparently performed poorly. Interestingly, he declined to take a breath test, telling officers, “I’ve heard from all the lawyers that they would never do that, so we won’t do that.”

While Romo hasn’t publicly addressed the situation yet, a court date is on the calendar for September 21.
