Tony Wied Suggests Legislation to Prevent Federal Funding to 'Anarchist Areas'

On Wednesday, Rep. Tony Wied (R-WI) proposed a new bill aiming to limit federal funding to areas identified as “anarchist jurisdictions.”

This legislation seeks to implement a suspension that prevents what it terms anarchists from endangering cities, formalizing a memo from former President Donald Trump. It would cut federal funds for state or local areas that, according to the Justice Department, contribute to “disorder, violence, or destruction.”

“The United States is fundamentally a nation governed by law. I won’t allow violent offenders to disrupt our communities,” Wied expressed in a statement.

“If radical left governors and mayors do not prioritize the safety of their citizens and instead enable illegal aliens and criminals, it falls on the federal government. We cannot sit idly while chaos reigns anywhere in our nation.”

This proposal comes amid protests and riots in Los Angeles concerning the arrest of undocumented immigrants. The unrest has resulted in multiple arrests, prompting the mayor to impose a curfew to restore order.

Co-sponsors of Wied’s bill include Tom Tiffany (R-WI), Mike Collins (R-GA), William Timmons (R-SC), Chuck Edwards (R-NC), Mike Khalidporos (R-FL), Pat Harrigan (R-NC), Troy Neels (R-TX), and Rich McCormick (R-GA).

“Taxpayer money should not support anarchist jurisdictions. If radical Democratic leaders cannot maintain law and order, they shouldn’t qualify for federal funds. We must uphold the rule of law, not allow disorder to flourish,” Tiffany noted.

“Cities like Los Angeles have devolved into havens of lawlessness under Democratic governance,” Nehls commented.

The Texas Conservatives remarked that using taxpayer dollars to reward communities that allow violence against law enforcement, including ICE agents, is unacceptable. They support the Safe City Law to hold accountable those cities that fail to protect their citizens and to reward those that maintain law and order.

“This bill is essential, and I’m honored to support Rep. Wied’s initiative. If local authorities prioritize appeasing radicals over safeguarding their citizens, they shouldn’t receive federal funding. This legislation places law-abiding Americans at the forefront and enforces overdue accountability,” Harrigan added.

McCormick emphasized, “As a co-sponsor of the Safe City Law, I stand firm against actions that undermine law and order in our communities. The recent violent protests in Los Angeles serve as a stark reminder of what happens when anarchy is permitted. Our taxpayer funds should not go to areas fostering violence and destruction, and it’s crucial that federal resources support public safety and law enforcement.”

“If local officials ignore the law and let violent mobs jeopardize public safety, the federal government must intervene,” Khalidporos said. “We are committed to ensuring federal resources go only to places that uphold the law and protect citizens.”

“Cities that allow violence should not receive federal funds. It’s critical that we prioritize common sense and the safety of the public,” Timmons stated.

Edwards commented, “The government has an obligation to protect its citizens, but in some cases, it seems this responsibility is overlooked. We cannot put Americans at risk by ignoring violence perpetrated by those who think the rules don’t apply to them. The Safe City Law ensures that all jurisdictions uphold their commitments to safeguard U.S. citizens from disorder.”
