Alexa Plays “London Call” After a Collision
Fans are eagerly anticipating a new project from Rena Dunham this summer. Megan Starter recently wrapped up her role in Netflix’s ROM-COM series, alongside Will Sharpe.
Co-created by Dunham and her husband Lewis Felber, the series draws inspiration from Dunham’s own life experiences. In a July 2024 interview with the New Yorker, she mentioned, “I knew it from the beginning.” Although she acknowledged that Starter’s performance is “incredible,” Dunham admitted that it was tough to come to terms with her own situation at this point in her life.
“Physically, I just couldn’t imagine putting my body through that again,” she reflected on her previous role in the hit HBO comedy. The decision to cast Meg was clear to her, yet confronting that truth was quite challenging.
What are your thoughts? Will this new Netflix venture be a hit? I guess it remains to be seen.
What is the Series About?
The title of the series is “Former Patrom.com for disillusioned people wondering whether true love is still possible,” and I truly hope it captures that essence.
Starter stars as Jessica, a workaholic in her mid-30s navigating the aftermath of a long-term relationship that didn’t work out, which leads her to isolate herself in New York.
The synopsis suggests that when every neighborhood in New York starts reflecting her past mistakes, her only option is to start anew in London, where she hopes to live a solitary life akin to one of the Brontë sisters. However, upon meeting Felix (played by Sharpe), described as a “walking Red Flag,” she realizes their chemistry can’t be ignored, even if it complicates things further. They both must ponder whether Americans and Britons truly speak the same language.
Is There a Trailer?
Yes! Netflix has released a trailer that you can check out, available on Tuesdays.
Who is in the Cast?
In addition to Starter and Sharpe, the series features Michael Zegen, Janicka Bravo, Richard E. Grant, Leo Reich, Daisy Bevan, Adele Exarchopoulos, Dean Charles Chapman, Rita Wilson, Naomi Watts, Prasana Pwanaraja, and Andrew Runnel Momoi, along with Adwoa Aboah.
Guest appearances include Andrew Scott, Jennifer Saunders, Kit Harington, Rita Ora, and Jessica Alba.
What is the Release Date?
All ten episodes will be available for streaming on Netflix starting Thursday, July 10th.
