A new study by WalletHub reveals the so-called best US cities for foodies, and Florida leads the way.

The Miami-based company this week released its 2024 Best Cities list of food-friendly cities. The list ranks more than 180 major cities based on 28 key food-friendliness metrics.

WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo said in a video interview with Fox News Digital that this year's list takes into account several factors, including the accessibility and affordability of fine dining restaurants with at least a 4.5 star rating. spoke. (See the video at the top of this article.)

“What was surprising to me was that even though the top 10 gastronomic cities all perform very well in rankings for diversity, accessibility and quality, some of them are not affordable. “It ranks very low in terms of,” he said.

Lupo said the 2024 Gastronomic Cities list is essentially a replacement of last year's list, with nine of the top 10 cities returning to the top.

“Last year's top city was Orlando, but it has dropped to third place,” he noted.

Miami has been named the best city in the United States for people looking for good food.

Part of that is due to the affordability of restaurants rated 4.5 out of 5 stars and above, Lupo said.

“There are a lot more restaurants per capita, so there are a lot of quality food options out there,” he said.

What isn't often discussed is that Miami is the city with the third-highest number of farmers markets, Lupo said. That means there are food lovers in Miami who like to cook at home.

Looking more broadly, Florida State has finished in the top five three times.

Miami has been named the best city in the United States for people looking for good food.

Lupo said that's because the state has no state income tax, residents have more disposable income and the state offers a business-friendly environment.

WalletHub found Shreveport, Louisiana at the bottom of the list. Jackson, Mississippi. Nampa, Idaho. Montgomery, Alabama, ranked low in both places, followed by Pearl City, Hawaii, which came in last place.

Lupo said Hawaii's cities rank low because the cost of living on the island is high and unaffordable.

“There's definitely room for improvement, perhaps in promoting and introducing a more diverse line-up of fine dining restaurants,” he says.
