Top “60 Minutes” producer Bill Owens suddenly resigned from the program on Tuesday, saying he was no longer independence enough to run the program he wanted.
“Over the past few months, it has become clear that I am not allowed to run the show because I have always done it,” he wrote in a note to staff member like this. Fox News Digital. “To make independent decisions based on what is right for the audience for 60 minutes, so we are putting aside the show and what we stand for, from all angles, to do everything we can to help the show move forward.
“The show is too important to the country and needs to continue. I’m not with me as an executive producer.”

CBS News President Wendy McMahon praised Owens in a message to staff.
“As an executive producer, Bill led the 60 minutes with unwavering integrity, curiosity and a deep commitment to truth,” she writes. “He has defended journalism that informs, enlightens and often changes national conversations. His dedication to finding talent and fostering is felt on CBS News for many years.”
The news comes as “60 minutes,” and CBS gets caught up in a lawsuit launched by President Donald Trump in an interview with then-President Kamala Harris on last year’s show. The show aired various parts of Harris’s answers to separate night questions.
Trump said CBS lost its broadcast license and should blame it on “fraudulent” reports.
According to the New York Times, which first reported on Owens’ resignation, earlier this year, Owens said he would not apologise for the Harris segment as part of his settlement with Trump.
