New York City stands out yet again.
For the third consecutive year, the Mandarin Oriental, a luxury hotel brand based in Hong Kong, has secured the top spot among the world’s best luxury hotels. Interestingly, they have only three locations in the U.S., one of which proudly sits above Columbus Circle in NYC.
Luxury Travel Intelligence (LTI) has a special way of determining these rankings. Their Elite Travel Advisers have developed an algorithm that evaluates 130 different aspects related to luxury hotels, from how well each property performs to the quality of staff and management.
With a total of 40 hotels and a growing list of brand residences across 26 countries, Mandarin Oriental is indeed a global presence. It all started when the first hotel opened in Hong Kong back in 1963.
This year, Aman Resorts made an impressive leap from fifth to second place, while Bvlgari and Oetker Collections followed closely in third and fourth.
A surprise entry in the top five is Rosewood, which moved up from eighth place this year.
These brands—Mandarin Oriental, Aman, Rosewood, Auberge, Four Seasons, and the Peninsula—can all be found in New York City.
Here’s a complete rundown of this year’s winners.
