The British Conservative Party has betrayed its voters by getting rid of two-thirds of its elected members, a rising star MP told US conservatives on Monday.
“We have a lot of [conservative] “There was nothing in the policy document and we did nothing,” Suella Braverman MP told the National Conservative Party Conference on July 8. “We didn’t specifically mention immigration… [especially] We didn’t want to talk about the role of uncontrolled population growth.”
Braverman, a candidate to replace Rishi Sunak, the defeated leader of the UK Conservative Party, warned his friendly audience of American conservatives not to be fooled by the excuse that a “deep state” was blocking conservative reforms.
Political failures, she says, are often engineered by duplicitous politicians who loudly promise conservative policies but secretly support the liberal establishment.
The important thing for Brits, and probably for many countries, to understand is that [is that] Many conservatives would say that such [policy failure] This happens because of the “blob” [The U.K.s’ term for the Deep State]It is a mysterious and relentless presence in the administrative state that stops politicians from doing what they claim to do when trying to win your vote.
This is rubbish by the way, and the Conservative Party [Conservative Party] Failure to implement [immigration reform] I will explain why.
The reason it didn’t happen is [conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak] It didn’t happen. The politician chose not to do it. Not because it was impossible. Not because he made a valiant attempt and failed spectacularly. Because he simply didn’t, despite publicly saying many times that he wanted to do it. He saved face by not doing it, and achieved his goal. [of blocking reform].
The lesson here is that we conservatives need to stop looking for illusions to explain our views. [naive] Failure: We need to start watching our politicians more closely. [who] They never intended to make such big claims in the first place.
She added that Britain’s top conservative leaders had also cleverly hidden their support and sympathy for transgender policy behind public opposition.
I was told I was on the wrong side of history [by opposing] About that radical idea. I’m not saying this to brag or curry favor, but to admit my own failure. [“progress”] That horrible flag [transgender] A political campaign with which I did not agree was removed from the roof of the government department I was supposed to be in charge of.
Now, again… you want to say it was the Blob, but it wasn’t, and it was all the fault of the Conservative politicians.
Why is this [flag was flying] I went to 10 Downing Street, to Downing Street, and there was no answer, because too many Conservative politicians would agree, and will continue to agree, that the Progressive flag should fly because it is kind and inclusive. It shows how liberal and progressive we are. And that is what many Conservatives want us to be. What the Progressive flag is telling me is that I was part of a government that ran this country. [surgical] mutilation of children in hospitals and schools;
We as Conservatives have been forcefully insisting that we are doing something about trans fanatics, even as we have marred the general election campaign, but in reality, what we have done is allowed it to happen…
Within the Conservative party, there were colleagues who supported this plan and were completely in support of it, and who viewed people like me who opposed it and wanted to stand up for the safety and security of children as not just villains, but people who were losing the party votes with their hateful rhetoric.
She said elite betrayal of mainstream Conservative priorities had caused people to abandon the Conservative party, particularly since Nigel Farage emerged as a Conservative voice in the Reform Party.
Why have we suffered the worst election result in 300 years? It’s because of what we have done, and what we have not done over the last two years. It’s because of our record, which sober British people see only too clearly… This is a just punishment to the people for our failure to deliver on our promises. And it’s getting worse.
We can now trust [political] They are a threat and a credible rival for right-wing voters. [first past the post] The electoral system will fragment our vote and drastically reduce the number of conservative and reformist lawmakers who are elected… This is not just a defeat for my party. This is a moment of existential crisis from which we may not recover.
But she says Conservative members still mock Conservative voters.
Our problem is ourselves… My party has governed as liberals and lost as liberals… [Yet] Among my colleagues, [Farage’s] The blame lies with the Reform voters…. “Why don’t they vote for us? Don’t they know that we have a God-given right to their support, and it doesn’t matter how we use that support?”
The cry for rights goes hand in hand with harmful condescension. Some of my parliamentary colleagues consider my voting for reform to be racism… [Who say] “We should be happy that their filthy support is gone.”
“Let me say something very British here: the Conservative party will never recover unless they learn some basic manners. We are not entitled to a single vote other than the one we get for keeping our promises,” she said, adding:
[Farage’s] reform [Party] It’s not going to magically disappear unless we address the concerns of our constituents. [Farage’s] Because we pushed voters for reform, now voters… [and that] The overwhelming support is due to how offensive our record is…
But we haven’t begun to respect them yet. [or] Please think seriously about why they stopped voting for us. We insulted them and [Reform] Party, trying to throw mud. [That] It feels good, but the reality is that we are increasingly alienating our people.
This message has been echoed by other conservatives. BBC:
Former cabinet minister Jacob Rees-Mogg offered a similar solution, claiming that “Conservative parties”, including Reform UK, won a total of 11 million votes in last week’s vote.
He added that the results are “a wake-up call against the arrogance of believing that we have a divine right to govern and a divine right over certain voters.”
“We didn’t. We thought our core votes had nowhere else to go. And they did.”
“And we can’t just assume that the pendulum is going to swing back to our side or that all of the reform voters are going to suddenly repent. We need to get them on our side somehow.”
“Going forward, we must be unashamed advocates for families,” Braverman said.
