Tottenham dismiss Ange Postecoglou just weeks after winning the Europa League title

Tottenham has finally secured a trophy, but they’ve just lost their coach.

The club dismissed manager Ange Postecoglou on Friday, following his recent victory in the Europa League.

He had been on a four-year contract, just two years into his tenure.

After reviewing the team’s performance, the club stated, “Following serious reflection, Ange Postecoglou has been released from his duties.” They acknowledged that while winning the Europa League was significant, decisions shouldn’t be made solely based on emotions linked to that victory.

A pivotal moment in the Europa League final came with a 42nd-minute goal by Brennan Johnson, securing a win against Manchester United.

This victory also guaranteed Tottenham a spot in next year’s UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup, which is a pretty big deal. However, it was one of the few highlights of what turned out to be a tough season.

Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League, marking the worst finish in their history, eking out a position just above the relegation zone.

The team noted that this was a tough decision, one they had to make with the future in mind, indicating it wasn’t easy but necessary for potential success ahead.

Postecoglou had previously enjoyed success in Scotland with Celtic FC, leaving Tottenham with a record of 47 wins, 15 draws, and 39 losses.

One of Tottenham’s standout players, Pedro Polo, expressed his gratitude to Postecoglou on Instagram, thanking him for his guidance and support during his time at the club.

“Thank you for everything, Boss,” he wrote. “You coached me early on, helped me settle in, and I’m really grateful for your guidance throughout all the ups and downs.”

Now, Tottenham needs to find a new manager swiftly as the summer transfer window is just around the corner.
