Tourist almost set on fire after electric shock travels through his dental fillings at luxury resort

British tourists encountered a terrifying incident during their stay in Egypt when one man reported being severely electrocuted in his hotel room.

Steve Ellis, a 42-year-old, was on a ten-night holiday at the Coral Sea Imperial Sensatore Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh. He described a shocking experience where he was thrown to the floor after coming into contact with a bedside lamp. Despite the shock lasting only about 15 seconds, a doctor informed him that he had “burned alive” because the electric current affected his mouth.

In Steve’s words, “If I hadn’t left the lamp, things could have been much worse.” He reflected on how lucky he felt and expressed concern that his children might have been in similar danger had they touched the lamp.

Initially, he felt the jolt through his left hand and quickly used his right hand to try to pull away from the light, but it was already too late. Alone in the room, he screamed for help as he struggled with the shock.

After the incident, hotel personnel, including a doctor and a holiday representative, checked on him. Steve reported a troubling encounter where the doctor seemed to suggest that his partner should provide a misleading account of the events. “I wasn’t going to lie; that could come back to haunt us,” he said.

In the aftermath, Steve noted that there appeared to be wires sticking out of the lamp—something he hadn’t initially noticed. “You just don’t think about it until something goes wrong,” he commented.

Shortly after the shocking event in January, he developed a ring-shaped burn around his mouth and underwent several medical tests, including blood work and an electrocardiogram to monitor his heart’s electrical activity.

Unfortunately, the incident has taken a toll on his work as a kitchen fitter. He now experiences ongoing pain in his hands and shoulders, which often feels like a burning sensation. “It’s tough to work,” he said, explaining how it affects his ability to lift and carry items. “I’ve even had to leave work early, losing money in the process.”

The travel agency involved has been contacted for their response.
