A meeting in Thornton Township Tuesday night descended into chaos over scandal-plagued Dolton, Illinois Mayor Tiffany Henyard.
According to CBS News Chicago, The meeting was originally intended to address the Thornton Township Board, which is currently operating without a fiscal budget, so the board asked Ms. Henyard, who also serves as Thornton Township Supervisor, about her extravagant spending habits. They started demanding more openness.
Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot previously investigated Henyard's spending habits in Dalton Village, but her spending habits in Thornton Township have not been investigated.
“Lori Lightfoot has done a great job in Dalton,” Thornton Township Trustee Carmen Carlisle said at the meeting. “I welcome her to come here to Thornton Township and do the same thing.”

Henyard accused the board of attacking her, claiming the town had been in the red even before her term as mayor and supervisor.
“This is what I would say about my board,” Henyard said. “There is a lot of hatred, jealousy and envy among them towards their superiors.”
The board continued to criticize her out-of-control spending, which led to an angry exchange between Mr. Henyard and Mr. Carlisle.
“I'm the leader of Thornton Township. I'm the supervisor of Thornton Township. And I'm going to make sure that all of you respect me and stop playing games like this every time you come to a meeting.” said Henyard.
“Respect is earned, not demanded,” Carlisle said.
According to footage, the meeting became more heated as Henyard and Carlyle accused each other of lying. ABC7 Chicago.
“She lies all the time,” Henyard said.
“No, you lie all the time,” Ms. Carlyle replied, as several people cheered at her comment.

In June, police broke up a scuffle between Mr Henyard's supporters and opponents before it turned violent.
Lightfoot's review of the town's finances in May showed Dalton's general fund balance was $5.61 million in 2022, but by May 2024 the balance would be $3.65 million in the red. The preliminary report revealed that the number has decreased.
