Tradwives and the Debate on Traditional Roles
Recently, social media has been buzzing with images showcasing traditional, at-home mothers known as “Tradwives.” This trend suggests that women shouldn’t work and that it’s acceptable to halt personal growth in favor of raising children. However, Ally Beth Stucky, a host on BlazetV, strongly disagrees with this sentiment.
“What I find troubling about this traditional trend is the focus on aesthetics over substance,” Stucky explains. She argues that many women in the TradWife community are merely participating in a form of cosplay—some are working, while others claim they are not.
While Stucky herself balances her podcast and family life, she emphasizes the importance of avoiding hypocrisy. “I can shape my priorities around my podcast, but I believe some jobs can undermine motherhood, particularly with very young kids,” she says. This creates your own challenges.
She adds, “We can’t just stop learning or growing as parents. We’re called to love God with all our hearts and to educate our children.” Stucky believes that as mothers, there’s a duty to teach not only our kids but also other women in our community.
Raising a child isn’t a mindless endeavor, she insists. “This isn’t a period of ignorance; it’s a time for enhancing our intellect. Kids ask important questions, and if we’re not engaging with them, we’re missing valuable learning opportunities.” After all, it’s crucial to provoke their minds to think critically and curious about the world around them.
