Search Underway for Missing Persons in Oregon Waterfall Incident
A frantic search is currently happening in Oregon after a group of six encountered a tragic incident at a waterfall on Saturday. This unfortunate event led to one person losing their life, while three others were hospitalized, and two remain missing.
The emergency response kicked off at Dillon Falls, situated on the Deschutes River, just west of Bend, around 3 PM. At the scene, one individual was confirmed deceased. Three others were rescued from the river and taken to a nearby hospital, but details on their conditions have not yet been released. The sheriff’s office noted that the search continues for the two individuals who are still unaccounted for.
Dillon Falls features a 15-foot drop and is known for its swift currents, described as resembling a “fast step ladder-like” pattern. Hazard signs are posted to warn visitors about the waterfall, advising them to travel upstream and wear life jackets.
According to the sheriff’s office, the Bend Fire and Rescue, along with the Bend Police Department, aided in the search efforts on Saturday, supplying support for aerial reconnaissance. The search was briefly halted on Saturday night but resumed Sunday morning, utilizing drones, a marine patrol boat, and three K-9 units. Fifteen responders have combed through the designated high-priority areas identified in the search efforts.
Despite these extensive measures, no progress was made in locating the missing individuals by Sunday evening. The search is scheduled to continue on Monday. What exactly the group was doing before the incident remains uncertain.
As of now, the names of the deceased and the survivors have not been publicly disclosed, pending notifications to their families.
