Tragic Encounter: Father Reveals Fatal Stabbing of Star Athlete Came After Suspect’s Anger Over Being in the Wrong Place

The grieving father of a 17-year-old high school athletic star, who was fatally stabbed during a track event in Frisco, Texas, stated that the individual who killed his son became upset after being informed he was in the incorrect location and asked to leave.

"I’m not in a position to judge, but what kind of upbringing did this child have? What lessons were imparted? He came with a knife to this event and stabbed my son in the chest. According to Frisco police, 17-year-old Carmelo Anthony was arrested and charged with the murder of Austin Metcalf. The police indicated that Anthony’s bond has yet to be established, and it remains unclear if he has secured legal representation.

Authorities stated they were dispatched to Kuykendall Stadium around 10am following the stabbing incident involving the two 17-year-olds. Austin Metcalf succumbed to his injuries despite emergency efforts by police and firefighters, which included CPR and blood transfusion, as reported by the station.

Jeff Metcalf, speaking to KXAS, noted he was unfamiliar with the student who attacked his son, and that Hunter, Austin’s twin brother, not only witnessed the attack but also attempted to staunch the bleeding. You can view KXAS video reports here.

"I rushed over as quickly as I could," the tearful Hunter recounted, "I tried to reach him as fast as I could." He told WFAA-TV. "I was looking at my brother and I can’t discuss the rest. I tried to save him." You can view the WFAA video report. here.

Hunter revealed to WFAA that he held onto his brother until the first responders began their life-saving measures.

Jeff Metcalf added in his interview with KXAS, "[Austin] was trying to stop the bleeding when he died in Hunter’s embrace. I rushed to his side and saw him on the gurney and was told – they said he was unresponsive. I could see all the blood and where he was injured; I was extremely anxious to find my other son, so we raced to the hospital. We prayed, and though I don’t grasp it, it is God’s will, but they could not save him. This was a murder.”

Hunter, who is just a few minutes younger than Austin, shared with WFAA.

He mentioned to WFAA that Austin was well-respected and that all his friends adored him.

Austin was a junior at Memorial High School in Frisco, recognized as an MVP for the soccer team, and was an active member of the track team. The Dallas News reported. Jeff Metcalf highlighted to KXAS that Austin maintained a 4.0 GPA and had ambitious aspirations for his future. "He was beloved by many and was a natural leader."

The Metcalf family has established gofundme to assist Hunter with counseling and educational expenses related to Austin’s funeral, KXAS reported.

Regarding the suspect, WFAA noted that Anthony played football at Centennial High School and showcased on social media that he had received scholarship offers to several smaller colleges to play football.

A representative from Frisco ISD stated that immediately following the stabbing, the stadium was secured, the event was halted, and all students were sent back to their respective schools "for safety," according to KXAS, which added that over 100 students from eight schools participated in the 11-5A Championship District Track competition.
