Tragic Loss of Southern California College Athlete

A 20-year-old college athlete from Southern California tragically passed away Wednesday after her car went over an 80-foot embankment.

Jenny Wallace, who attended Victor Valley Community College and aspired to play in the WNBA, died in a rollover accident on Interstate 15 in Cajon Pass.

California Highway Patrol reported that they responded to the crash on July 15, 2026, at 1:51 p.m., about north of Kenwood Avenue. Once on the scene, authorities pronounced Jenny Harris, from Victorville, dead.

Her mother, Tamara Wallace, shared her heartache, describing Jenny as an extraordinary daughter and best friend, someone who always brought joy and encouragement to those around her. “She was the best sister to my younger siblings, full of life and love,” she reflected.

Initially, Tamara attempted to reach Jenny by phone, but instead, a police officer answered and delivered the heartbreaking news.

Aside from her basketball career, Jenny also played varsity volleyball during her high school years in Victorville. Her college basketball team expressed their deep sorrow, stating, “Jenny was more than a teammate; she was a beloved friend and family member.”

There were two other passengers in the vehicle with Jenny—her best friend and his mother—who sustained serious injuries and were subsequently taken to a nearby trauma center.

Details surrounding the cause of the accident remain unclear as authorities continue to investigate.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established, raising more than $14,500 toward a goal of $15,000 to assist the family with preparations for services.

A memorial service in celebration of Jenny’s life is scheduled for July 19 at 5 p.m. at the Apple Valley Civic Center Park.
