Rep. Sarah McBride Criticizes Trump on Voting Policies
Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) has expressed serious concerns regarding President Trump’s stance on voting, describing his actions as a direct “assault on American democracy.” She specifically pointed to his desire to eliminate mail-in voting and certain voting machines.
“This president is mimicking aspects of his favorite dictator. It’s important to understand that a leader with popular support doesn’t resort to illegal tactics like banning voting machines or manipulating districts,” McBride remarked in a social media post on Monday.
She continued: “This is not just an attack on free elections; it’s an attack on the very foundation of American democracy.”
In a recent Fox News Channel interview with Sean Hannity, President Trump reiterated his position, stating, “Smart Guy Vladimir Putin said you can’t be honest… election by mail vote,” after meeting with the Russian leader in Alaska.
Trump later took to Truth Social to assert his plans for the upcoming midterms, claiming he would sign an executive order aimed at cracking down on mail-in voting and voting machines.
“I’m going to spearhead the effort to eliminate mail-in votes. And let’s be clear, there are voting machines that are very inaccurate and controversial,” Trump added, spotlighting his approach to these voting methods.
“We’re the only country still using mail-in voting. Other nations have moved away from it due to the prevalence of voter fraud. Remember, states are just agents in counting votes; they need to follow what the federal government intends in the interest of the nation,” he remarked.
Trump also criticized the Democratic party, claiming they rely on “disproven” mail-in voting methods to achieve outcomes. He included topics like “open borders” and “men in women’s sports” among other policies he opposes.
He concluded with a warning: “Elections can’t be honest with mail-in voting, especially when it comes to Democrats. The Republican Party and I will fight vigorously to uphold integrity in our electoral processes. The mail-in voting issue, along with voting machines—those are total disasters—must end immediately. Without strong borders and fair elections, there’s no maintaining our nation’s integrity.”
