Transgender and nonbinary people oppose bathroom ban with dancing takeover of women’s toilets in congressional building

LGBTQ+ activists protested the ban on biological males in women's restrooms at the U.S. Capitol, dancing inside the restrooms and posting videos of their pranks.

The ban was put in place by Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana after controversy erupted over the selection of the first openly transgender member of Congress. Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina proposed a bill that would impose a ban and slammed the LGBTQ+ agenda.

“We understand what it means to be an outcast, so it's never hard for us to do what's necessary.”

Protesters posted videos showing the Capitol building and a group of transgender and nonbinary people dancing inside a women's restroom to the climactic song “Meeting in the Ladies Room.”

one of the activists said Gay Magazine reported that the bathroom ban was part of an effort to “eradicate” all transgender people.

“We have come here today to show them that we will not be erased or pushed back into the proverbial closet, ignoring the comfort of those who speak out to eradicate us. This is to help people understand.” .

“We understand what it means to be an outcast, so it's never hard to do what's necessary,” Gisele-Godsey continued. It never stops there. ”

Video of the protest is widely distributed on social media.

In a statement about the ban, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the controversy was overblown because each MP has their own toilet and parliamentary buildings also have unisex toilets.

Transgender Democratic Rep. Sarah McBride of Delaware said in a statement in response to the ban that the issue had become a “distraction.”

“I'm not here to fight over bathrooms. I'm here to fight for Delawareans and reduce costs facing families,” McBride said on social media. “Like other members, I intend to abide by the rules outlined by Chairman Johnson, even if I disagree with them.”
