Miss Maine Contestant Discusses Experience with Media Scrutiny
Isabelle St. Sill, a transgender contestant at the Miss Maine pageant, recently shared insights about her behind-the-scenes conversations with fellow competitor Jordon Hudson.
Hudson, who was the second runner-up, found herself in the spotlight after comments made by her boyfriend, Bill Belichick, during a CBS interview promoting his new book. Belichick referred to Hudson as his “creative muse,” which led to increased media attention.
In a follow-up discussion, St. Sill pointed out how the media’s treatment of the contestants was tough. She mentioned, “We talked about how we managed it and stayed positive, even when we had to decide when to respond to negativity.” She expressed gratitude for Hudson’s openness about their shared experiences with media scrutiny.
The two contestants recognized that negative coverage was likely expected; after all, “that’s just the way people click.” St. Sill noted that Hudson helped her feel less isolated amid the backlash they both faced during the event.
Hudson acknowledged the criticism directed at her participation in the pageant, saying, “A lot of backlash was present on that night, both in the buildup to and during the competition.” Meanwhile, Shelby Howell from Bangor was crowned Miss Maine USA, with St. Sill as a semi-finalist and Hudson winning the “Style” Award.
Hudson seemed to convey a message of resilience during her statements, declaring, “I feel a huge amount of pride right now. I hope anyone who sees this can find the strength to push through difficult moments.” When reflecting on what moment she wished to relive, she mentioned her family’s fishing boat, expressing a connection to her roots.
She also emphasized her commitment to representing her community if crowned Miss Maine America, pledging to advocate for local fishermen and address issues concerning their challenges.
