A transgender man allegedly tried to kidnap a child at a Colorado elementary school. the police said That he was registered as a sex offender.
The Aurora Police Department said officers were called to Black Forest Hills Elementary School on Friday in connection with the incident.
Investigators say 33-year-old Solomon Galligan entered the school grounds and approached a group of children. The boy allegedly tried to grab the boy before fleeing the school. Police have not investigated what prompted him to leave alone.
He was then arrested by police and charged with attempted kidnapping. Galligan is being held at the Aurora Detention Center on $25,000 bail.
The mother of the child Galligan allegedly tried to kidnap told KCNC-TV about the boy.
“This changed his life and my life forever,” Miranda Ayala said. “My son was moved by someone who came onto the field during school breaks with the other adults who were supposed to be looking after his son.”
She said the child told police it smelled like alcohol and had white powder on his face.
Other parents told KCNC they were angry that the school wasn’t as transparent with parents about the incident as it should have been.
School authorities tried to reassure parents in an email that security at the elementary school had been stepped up.
“We take all safety concerns very seriously and have launched an investigation into Friday’s incident,” a school spokesperson said in a statement. “We are committed to transparency and accountability to the community, and the school is committed to communicating with families.”
Ayala said school officials who were supposed to protect the children were distracted by their cell phones. Other children shouted a warning: “Strangers are dangerous!”
“These kids saved my son’s life,” she added.

“So, I’m starting hormone shots. I really can’t wait to start taking them. I’ve been on them for almost four months,” Galligan wrote at the time.
He had been convicted of nonconsensual sexual contact in Denver, but had failed to register as a sex offender.
