Travel restrictions on 12 nations in Africa and the Middle East are now active

President Donald Trump’s travel restrictions on citizens from 12 countries took effect on Monday. The ban, announced last week, affects individuals from Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

Additionally, there are significant limitations for citizens of Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela if they do not hold valid visas for the U.S. However, it’s important to note that previously issued visas remain unaffected by this order.

Trump stated that the reason for this travel ban was linked to recent terrorist incidents involving pro-Israel groups urging Hamas to release Israeli hostages in Boulder, Colorado. He emphasized the necessity of reinstating the ban, commonly referred to as the “Trump travel ban,” aimed at keeping certain individuals, particularly extremists, out of the country.

Tommy Piggott, a deputy spokesman for the State Department, backed the president’s stance during a briefing, asserting the importance of national security in this matter. Trump remarked that migration from nations where thorough screening isn’t feasible poses risks, which justifies this executive action.

In closing, the president reiterated that this new executive order aims to reinforce safety, ensuring that those who wish to harm the U.S. cannot gain entry. It’s a significant move that reflects ongoing concerns about national security.
