Travis Hunter Sits Out Jaguars Preseason Finale
Travis Hunter will miss the Jaguars’ preseason finale on Saturday due to some upper body injuries he sustained during last week’s scrimmage. However, Jacksonville is optimistic he might be available for the season opener.
Director Liam Cohen mentioned, “We wanted him available now, but perhaps not for this game. The main focus is on the matchup against Carolina in Week 1.” He pointed out that being cautious is the best course of action for the moment.
Hunter, the second overall pick for the Jaguars in the April draft, faced an injury in Jacksonville’s second preseason game last weekend. He did play in the opening match against the Steelers on August 9.
After that game, Hunter admitted, “I was a little nervous at first, but once that first play happened, I was good.” He managed to contribute on both offense and defense, playing ten snaps as a receiver and eight as a cornerback.
Cohen offered some positive feedback, noting that Hunter caught two passes for nine yards and made some smart choices on optional routes. Yet, he also missed a tackle, which raised some concerns. “I need to check the tape to see how he handles defensive plays a bit better,” Cohen added. He acknowledged that Hunter made the right call on offense, but more analysis is needed for a thorough evaluation.
On the defensive side, Hunter had a moment where he missed a tackle and appeared uncertain before the snap. “You can shake that off and get back to focusing,” Hunter said about the situation. “I know what I need to improve on next time.”
