Travis Hunter, a rookie with the Jacksonville Jaguars, recently had an unexpected encounter with a woman named Sandy Hawkins Combs while on a flight shortly after he was selected second overall in the NFL Draft. Their meeting took place in May, and just days later, before the Jaguars faced off against the Kansas City Chiefs, the two met again on the field, where they took some photos together.
Combs reflected on their flight, describing it as “amazing.” She noted how Hunter helped her with her bag and tray, expressing pride in him for being so polite and courteous. At the time, she had no idea who he was until other passengers began to recognize him.
“I remember people walking by saying congratulations and taking photos, which piqued my curiosity. I looked at his Jaguars pants and asked if he was an athlete. When he introduced himself as Travis, I realized he was drafted by the team. I even told my sons I wanted his jersey,” Combs shared.
She described him as humble and down-to-earth, not at all what you might expect from a professional athlete. “Jacksonville Jaguars, you did well! I’d buy a ticket to see him play,” Combs added.
For Hunter, the moment felt quite ordinary. “It was just a regular interaction. We chatted and made sure she was comfortable. It’s just what you do,” he commented about their flight experience.
Now, they have two memorable moments together, both on the plane and on the field.
