Authorities have reported that Travis Hunter Sr., the father of NFL rookie and 2024 Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, was arrested for breaching the conditions of his probation.
A warrant for Hunter Sr.’s arrest was issued on July 10, following an incident on June 28 when officials noted he was “too far from the surveillance device to be accurately tracked,” as detailed in court documents.
The 39-year-old, who has a history of drug and gun-related charges stemming from a November 2023 arrest, was taken into custody in Palm Beach, Florida, on Tuesday. Currently, he is being held at the West Palm Beach Prison.
Reports indicate that his alarm bracelet showed it was not functioning correctly on the evening of June 28, specifically between 8:07 and 8:18 PM, as noted by his probation officer.
When contacted by the surveillance center, Hunter Sr. stated he was in his bedroom while his device was in the living room. Three days later, he claimed he had misplaced the device during an outing and was trying to locate it.
Probation officers checked the device on July 4 and confirmed that it was operational. During questioning, Hunter Sr. mentioned he had “moved too much and forgot about it,” as per court records.
The judge concluded that Hunter Sr. had violated his probation terms due to his failure to comply with electronic monitoring.
This isn’t his first brush with the law; he was initially arrested during a traffic stop in Palm Beach County in 2023, where authorities found drugs and a firearm in his vehicle. He received a sentence of 90 days and was placed on three years of probation, which included a year of house arrest.
Due to these legal issues, Hunter Sr. missed the ceremony for his son’s Heisman Trophy win in New York last December. However, he was granted permission to attend this year’s NFL Draft in Green Bay, where his son, a standout player at Colorado, was selected second overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
