Travis Kelce explains why his choice with the Chiefs was easy.

Travis Kelce’s decision to return to the Chiefs for his 13th NFL season was pretty straightforward.

Earlier this year, he was at the center of retirement discussions. On Wednesday, he mentioned that he feels he has a lot to prove following the Chiefs’ disappointing Super Bowl showing in February.

“I love football. Honestly, I wasn’t overthinking it. I care about my friends, family, the team, and everyone in this organization who shows up to work every day. So, it wasn’t a tough call for me.”

As a three-time Super Bowl champion and ten-time Pro Bowler, Kelce’s statistics showed a dip this past season, with 823 yards and three touchdowns compared to 984 yards and five touchdowns in 2023.

This marks the second season in a row where he hasn’t topped 1,000 receiving yards—a milestone he had consistently achieved every year since 2016.

His quieter production led to speculation about whether his focus was elsewhere. He has been involved in various opportunities outside of football, like participating in trivia games.

His public profile surged due to his relationship with pop star Taylor Swift.

After the Chiefs’ harsh Super Bowl loss in 2025, Kelce was motivated to bounce back; he only caught four passes for 39 yards in that 40-22 defeat.

“I’m definitely back,” Kelce said in an interview. “We focused on getting in top shape this offseason, and we want to erase the bad taste from that last game and how everything went down.”

There were rumors that he lost about 25 pounds during the offseason, and he addressed the speculation surrounding his weight on Wednesday.

“First of all, I never claimed that,” Kelce stated. “Don’t believe everything you read online.”

Kelce trained in Florida this offseason alongside Swift, who wrapped up her global tour last December.

They enjoyed time together, especially after a game night that coincided with the Stanley Cup event where the Panthers faced off against the Oilers.

Kelce and the Chiefs are set to kick off their season against the Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Friday, September 5.
