CBS Mornings host Gayle King would only say, “We’ll see,” but Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce did not attend the final night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Thursday, despite reports from the host speculating he would be able to attend.
Kelce watched the final preseason game against the Kansas City Bears from the sidelines at Arrowhead Stadium.
King, who reported from the Chicago area for the network, initially said he hadn’t confirmed rumors about Beyonce or Taylor Swift appearing on the show, but then clarified why the Swift rumor was “interesting” to him.
“I heard a few days ago that Travis Kelce also reached out to the Harris campaign and said he wanted to be here when this election was first announced. [Kamala] “They’ve spoken,” King said, “and we’ll see if that’s true.”
Then someone else on set said that Kelsey had a match.
“I know he has the game,” King said, “but that doesn’t mean he’s playing.”
Kelce ended up sitting out the game against the Bears, and while the Chiefs rested him, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and most of their other starters, he also sat out the trip to Chicago.
Kelce made a cameo appearance alongside Mahomes and the starters early in the preseason, catching two passes for 15 yards, including one on a slick behind-the-back pass from Mahomes that Kelce claimed was caused by the star tight end missing a route.
“I always said it was just going to come naturally,” Mahomes said after the 24-23 loss to the Lions on Aug. 17, according to the Associated Press. “I knew it was right on target. It was just low. But like I said, I didn’t do it to look cool. I did it because I was pissed.” [at Kelce]”Like, why did I run that route that way? And it worked.”
Kelsey’s recent offseason has had just about everything, from performances with girlfriend Taylor Swift on her “Eraser Tour” and plenty of trips to the Kentucky Derby to an appearance at the American Century Championship and, for the 34-year-old, the announcement of a “lovely” role in the upcoming “Happy Gilmore 2.”
The Chiefs will be looking to win their third consecutive Super Bowl when they open the regular season against the Ravens in Week 1 on September 5.
Kelce rushed for 984 yards (his first season since 2015 without a 1,000-yard season) and five touchdowns, then added 355 yards and three touchdowns in the playoffs against the Dolphins, Bills, Ravens and 49ers, respectively.
