Trevor Bauer will once again face an MLB team in hopes of making the team’s roster in 2024.
Bauer announced via social media that he will play against the New York Yankees but not for the Asian Breeze, an independent team based in Japan, where he previously pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers as a minor leaguer. He makes his first appearance in the United States in more than three years.
This time, Bauer will play for the Mexican team Diablos Rojos in a Sunday exhibition against the Yankees on March 24th.

But this isn’t the end for Bauer. Bauer agreed to play five more games with the Diablos in his own version of spring training.
“I will be pitching as part of @diablosrojosmx against the @Yankees on March 24th,” Bauer wrote to X. “The traditional spring training period is the best way for me to stay ready to pitch. It helps me stay in shape for the game and if an MLB offer comes along, I can immediately I’ll be able to join the rotation and I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.’ And I can’t wait to show you what Mexican baseball is all about!”

The Yankees will play split-team exhibition games in Mexico City this Saturday and Sunday.
Bauer, 33, has been trying to return to MLB since completing a 194-day suspension, originally set for 324 games, after being accused of sexual assault by a woman, but prosecutors have decided not to prosecute. A settlement was reached last fall. He will be charged in February 2022.
Bauer denied all charges against him, saying the meeting was consensual. When prosecutors did not press charges, the woman eventually filed charges against him and Mr. Bauer filed a countersuit.
He said he wants to play for the league minimum salary for any club to prove he can still be a force on the mound. During Bauer’s game against the Dodgers, where he was serving his suspension, he hit multiple 99 mph fastballs and struck out four of 12 batters.

“It’s not about the money,” he told reporters after performing with Asian Breeze. “I’ve been suspended twice. I’ve been cleared of all legal consequences. Logically, there’s no reason why I shouldn’t have a job.”
“But I don’t. I mean, it’s what it is. We’ll see how it plays out. I don’t want to predict the future. We’ll see. .”
Bauer still feels he’s one of the best pitchers in the world, and with Yankees ace Gerrit Cole not expected to be ready for the start of the season, he’s willing to bet against a team that has a starting pitcher available. There will be another chance to prove it.
After being released by the Dodgers, Bauer went to Japan as a pitcher for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars. He appeared in 24 games at two different levels with the BayStars, posting an impressive 2.59 ERA in 156.2 innings. Bauer struck out 160 batters and gave up only 34 walks.
