Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence said he “feels better” after an ugly hit on Texans linebacker Azeez Al Shaaia.
Lawrence made his first comments since Sunday's 23-20 loss to Houston in a post X hours after his wife, Marissa, spoke about his situation.
“Thank you to everyone who reached out/prayed for me. I feel better now that I'm home. It means so much, thank you everyone.” he wrote.
Previously, Marissa expressed her gratitude for the support her fans showed her after her hit.
“Thank you for all the messages and prayers,” she wrote. “We're just taking the time to make sure he's safe and healthy, and we appreciate all the support and love.”
Lawrence was also seen leaving the Jaguars' locker room with his wife after the game.
When Lawrence scrambled with two outs and second base, Al Shair got the hit.
Lawrence tried to slide when the Jaguars quarterback tried to fall and a linebacker hit Lawrence in a vulnerable position.
Lawrence lay on the field for several minutes before being helped to his feet and placed in the front seat of the cart.
He missed the remainder of the game with a concussion.
“Look, this is obviously a play that no one wants to see in our league, because when you look at what happens after the fact, it only escalates,” Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said. “It's unfortunate, it really is. It's unfortunate. I hope Trevor gets better. He'll obviously be in the protocols, but it's just an unfortunate play.”
The hit also led to a skirmish between the two teams, with Al Shair being sent off from the match and potentially facing further disciplinary action.
The Jaguars will play the Titans on the road next weekend.
