Tristan Thompson says he 'understands' Trump's view on immigration

Tristan Thompson Shares Views on Immigration

Veteran NBA player Tristan Thompson, who immigrated to the U.S., has shared his thoughts on the Trump administration’s approach to illegal immigration.

In a preview for an upcoming episode of the “Katie Miller Podcast,” Thompson expressed admiration for Trump, saying, “What a president! I love what he’s done for our country. I think he’s helped our country tremendously.”

He continued, “Regarding my stance on immigration, I believe…I really think that people who get their documents the right way should be prioritized. That seems fair to me.”

Thompson’s Nuanced Immigration Perspective

Thompson, a free agent who last played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, described his views on immigration as complex, showing understanding for those who are in the process of getting legal documents.

“I think it should be assessed on a case-by-case basis for each individual. While I see where he’s coming from, it really depends on who that person is,” Thompson noted.

The White House has yet to respond to inquiries regarding Thompson’s comments.

Thompson’s Background

Originally from Canada, Thompson became a U.S. citizen in 2020 during Trump’s presidency, just before joining the Boston Celtics. Reflecting on his journey, he stated, “I came to the United States on a student visa, always dreaming big, and now, I feel like I’m living the American dream.”

Thompson emphasized that his citizenship process was surprisingly quick, although he denied that his NBA career influenced it. “I think they just moved quickly because of the pandemic,” he said.

The complete interview with Thompson and Miller is set to air on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Rumble, and X on Tuesday at 6 PM ET.
