Truck Drivers from India Allegedly Caught Smuggling 300 Pounds of Cocaine in Indiana

Allegations of Drug Trafficking by Illegal Aliens with CDLs in Indiana

Two undocumented individuals from India, who received commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) in California, are now facing charges for allegedly trafficking over 300 pounds of cocaine throughout Indiana using a semi-truck.

On January 4, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents apprehended Gurpreet Singh, 25, and Jasveer Singh, 30, in Putnam County, Indiana, on drug-related charges and sought their custody.

Authorities reported that they discovered more than 300 pounds of cocaine concealed in the sleeper area of the semi-truck, which the two men were permitted to operate after being issued CDLs in California.

To put that into perspective, that’s sufficient cocaine to endanger the lives of over 113,000 Americans.

“Due to Gavin Newsom’s reckless policies, two criminal illegal aliens received commercial driver’s licenses from California and were arrested for trafficking 300 pounds of cocaine in a semi-truck,” said Tricia McLaughlin, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, in a statement.

McLaughlin added that California’s sanctuary policies even led them to disregard an arrest request concerning one of the suspects back in December, emphasizing that these policies put American lives in jeopardy. ICE took action to ensure these drug traffickers cannot return to society.

According to ICE, Gurpreet Singh initially crossed the southern border illegally near Lukeville, Arizona, on March 11, 2023, and was released into the U.S. following President Biden’s catch-and-release policy.

On the other hand, Jasveer Singh first illegally entered the U.S. on March 21, 2017, near Otay Mesa, California, and was arrested in December 2025 in San Bernardino for allegedly possessing stolen property. ICE had filed a request regarding his detention at that time, yet local authorities did not comply due to California’s sanctuary policy.
