Truck Association new york New York City filed a federal lawsuit against the Metropolitan Transportation Authority on Thursday over the city’s congestion pricing, arguing that the agency unfairly charges trucks and goods transport more than passenger cars.
Under the March proposal, trucks would be charged $24 or $36, private car drivers would expect to pay about $15, and there would be lower fees for motorbikes and those entering the city late at night.
The association said that while it and its members are “not fundamentally opposed to the Congestion Charge”, they are “fighting to overturn the current plan and want to see it improved to reduce its negative impacts and bring equality to the logistics industry”.
The association has suggested transport authorities revise the plan to either exempt the industry from tolls, limit toll collection for trucks once a day or charge the same rate as passenger cars.

The trucking association’s lawsuit is one of at least eight attempting to block plans to implement congestion pricing, set to begin June 30.
A Manhattan federal judge heard arguments earlier this month in a lawsuit brought by unionized public school teachers, politicians and other New Yorkers.

Many of the lawsuits allege that the toll was approved by federal transportation officials without proper study, and they argue that the court should order the transportation officials to conduct a more comprehensive environmental study before implementing the plan.
