Trump Criticizes Comey Over Controversial Post

President Donald Trump has publicly criticized former FBI Director James Comey, accusing him of inciting violence through a social media post. This claim follows Comey’s indictment on two charges related to an Instagram image he shared last year, which showed seashells arranged to read “86 47.”

“’86’ is a mob term for ‘kill him.’ They say 86 him! 86 47 means ‘kill President Trump.’ James Comey, who is a Dirty Cop, knows this full well! EIGHT MILES OUT, SIX FEET DOWN!” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Didn’t he also lie to the FBI about this??? I think so!”

Federal prosecutors have argued that the Instagram image serves as a veiled threat against Trump, interpreting “86” as slang for “eliminate,” and “47” as reference to the future 47th president. The indicted charges include threatening the president and interstate communication of a threat, since Comey posted the image online.

After sharing the controversial post in May, Comey deleted it, claiming he was unaware of its violent connotation and emphasizing his opposition to all forms of violence. Despite this situation, he maintains his innocence amidst the ongoing legal proceedings.

“Nothing has changed with me. I’m still innocent, I’m still not afraid, and I still believe in the independent federal judiciary,” Comey stated in a video shared online.

Last year, in an interview with Fox News, Trump insisted that Comey was fully aware of what his post implied.

“He knew exactly what that meant. A child knows what that means. That meant ‘assassination,’” Trump asserted at the time.

This indictment comes on the heels of a shooting incident that occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where the suspect was reportedly aiming at the president and other officials. Concerns have arisen regarding the impact of violent rhetoric against Trump and its real-world implications.
